A purpose-built mirror-cleaning vehicle for Egypt's solar fields

In collaboration with New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA)

A purpose-built mirror-cleaning vehicle for Egypt's solar fields

Concentrated solar power depends on keeping thousands of parabolic mirrors clean. Even a thin film of desert dust cuts a collector's reflectivity — and with it, the plant's output — so Egypt's solar fields have to be cleaned on a constant cycle.

Until now, the New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) cleaned its collectors with an ageing, improvised vehicle. In collaboration with NREA, PNM delivered a purpose-built replacement: a Fermupe / Masesur mirror-cleaning system mounted on a JCB Fastrac 4160, imported from Spain. It cleans full rows of mirrors faster, more gently, and with far greater coverage than the equipment it replaces.

It is the opening project in PNM Renewable Energy's work with NREA — and the first step toward a modernised cleaning fleet for the authority's concentrated solar collectors.

What we delivered

  • Sourcing and import of the Fermupe / Masesur cleaning system from Spain
  • Mounting and commissioning on a JCB Fastrac 4160 carrier
  • Delivery and handover to NREA's concentrated solar facilities
  • Operator familiarisation and ongoing maintenance support
